Zikalala warned consumers to be aware of the amount of money they spend - especially on unnecessary shopping, adding that people should avoid overspending.
He said, although we have entered the festive month, consumers must be aware as the rand is struggling.
"We want to encourage people to budget properly during this time. But also to spend money on what they really need. So, we must focus on ensuring that whatever we have is spent accordingly," he said.
Last week, thousands of KZN residents took to the province's shopping malls kicking off their festive season shopping.
