Schoolboy rape-accused get bail
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
The three high school learners accused of repeatedly raping their 12-year-old fellow pupil have been granted bail in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court.
The accused aged 18, 19 and 20 are in grades 8, 9 and 10 at Sithabile Secondary School in Inanda.
They allegedly sexually assaulted the boy in the school's toilets.
Magistrate Zenzele Mchunu has set the bail for each of the boys at R2 000 saying that it's in the interest of justice that they be released.
Mchunu has also agreed to release them on condition that they relocate as they live in the same area as the victim in the matter.
He's also warned them that when they have to go to school to write exams they are not to speak with the victim.
Mchunu has told the State he is unhappy with how the matter has been investigated citing gaping loopholes in case – particularly that the investigating officer did not take the statement of the teacher who noticed there was something wrong with the victim.
The matter has been adjourned until December.
