Divisional Commander at the eThekwini Fire Department, Dennis Govender says they immediately isolated the transformer that was ablaze.
He says technicians were also on site to make sure that the fire did not affect electricity supply.
Govender has also thanked motorists in the Pinetown area who gave way to emergency vehicles racing to the scene in peak hour traffic.
"The motorists were very courteous and we admire that. This enabled us to efficiently get to the fire. If we did not get right of way - it would have hampered our efforts to extinguish the fire," he said.
