We’re delighted to announce that Consumerwatch’s Wendy Knowler has won joint first prize in the Consumer Journalist category of the Department of Trade and Industry’s 2008 consumer awards, held at Emperors Palace in Gauteng in mid-March.
Wendy shares the award with Beeld’s consumer editor, Ina Opperman.
The DTI annually hosts Consumer Champion Awards to recognise and reward individuals who advance the rights of consumers in South Africa.
Wendy was also winner of the prestigious award in 2005, and a finalist in 2007, proving she’s a top player in the realm of consumer journalism in this country.
Well done Wendy, we’ve always known you’re our consumer champion!
Also in 2008, Wendy was named one of four finalists in the prestigious 2008 Vodacom Women in The Media Awards.
This is the only awards event in South Africa that exclusively recognises and honours women who have made a significant impact in the media industry in their respective fields.
Other finalists were Karima Brown: Political editor of Business Day; Khanyi Dhlomo: Founding editor of Destiny magazine and managing director of Ndalo Media and 702 station manager Pheladi Gwangwa.
Gwangwa was announced as the overall winner at a swish lunch function in Sandton on July 29. Congrats to her!
