Go green for Durban

While showing our support for the green and gold - we also need to support Durban's plans to go green during the World Cup.

The Greening Durban 2010 Programme aims to ensure all even venues use as little energy and water as possible.

The Moses Mabhida Stadium and Blue Lagoon are just some of the areas that are getting the green touch.

eThekwini municipality's Nicky Diederichs says Durban is the only host city that's committed to completely neutralising the impact of the tournament on the climate.

She says East Coasters can help too.

"We're also encouraging the members of the public to get hold of our green guidelines series, which we've produced. It’s available on both Durban Fifa website and on the Imagine Durban Website.

"People can basically download easy-to-use guidelines on how to reduce their energy and water consumption and costs in their home; how to manage their waste more sustainably and also how to landscape their gardens more sustainably," Diederichs said.
