Paraglider in serious condition

A paraglider is in a serious condition in the Pietermaritzburg Medi Clinic after he fell and crashed into the Drakensberg mountain range yesterday afternoon.

It is believed he was paragliding with a group of people in the Giants Castle area of the Berg, when the accident happened.

Netcare 911's Chris Botha says the man sustained serious injuries on impact, including head, chest and pelvic trauma.

He says to make matters worse the crash site was virtually inaccessible by road.

"We mobolised the Netcare helicopter from Virginia with a specialised trauma team on board.

He was airlifted through to a hospital for further treatment."
