Churches appeal for aid

It has been just over a week since the violent attack at Durban's Kennedy Road informal settlement.

The South African Council of Churches in KZN is appealing for aid.

Two people were killed and 30 informal dwellings destroyed in what is believed to have been ethnic clashes.

The Council's Eddie Makue says as a result dozens of people have been displaced and are in need of help, " The community members who have been displaced now need places of temporally shelter. Many of them because they only ran away from the violence with the clothing on their backs, would need some type of material support as well, and then for those who can afford there is an opportunity to provide monetary support."

A relief fund has been started. The banking details are:

Diocese of Natal Trust Account,

First National Bank,

Account number: 509 3118 7386,

Midlands Mall Branch,

Pietermaritzburg,

South Africa.
