An anti-drug group has applauded the police's latest arrest of an alleged drug dealer at Chatsworth.
A 25-year-old man was caught allegedly transporting 500 straws of heroin to the Bayview area on Tuesday. Police say a further one thousand mandrax tablets were found in his Bellair home.
A week ago, another man was arrested for allegedly being in possession of 500 straws of heroin.
The Anti-Drug Forum's Sam Pillay says these arrests prove the police are making some headway in the fight against drugs at Chatsworth.
"The meeting that we had with the minister of police - about six weeks ago - is paying off because we did point out to him that we were not too happy with the number of dealers that were operating 'carte blanche' in our area and it seems like he's putting pressure on the police forces. And we insisted on outside agencies being involved, and we see that happening as well. Organised crime, the Hawks are working as well and they are being very effective, and we are getting regular arrests on a regular basis."
