As you know I have a huge passion for the Natal Midlands. Come Friday my feet are ready to roam into the wide quiet open spaces. This last week end I headed up to Abingdon a wine farm with truck loads of charm.
After a short road trip from Durban we arrived and were greeted by the lush sight of the heavenly vines and the warmest welcome from our host's Ian and Jane (Jane and I met at the Toy story drive in PMB and instantaneously connected) (I think we were great friends in a world long ago) We sipped on bubbles under the trees and I automatically felt like a part of the family.
As you can imagine the SUPERB wine flowed freely over a beautiful dinner (thank you Claire you rock!) and all over our magical evening.
When I peeled my eyes open the next morning I didn't feel so clever but it helped waking up in a beautiful garden cottage with the most spectacular views of the Midlands.
Abingdon Wine Estate really is a very special place with a warm and welcoming energy.
They are open for freshly roasted coffee and croissants, wine tasting and light meals. Friday to Sunday is when they are open 9am-4pm or week days by appointment.
They also provide vineyard and cellar tours with Ian by prior arrangement.
(Ian have you started writing your book yet?)
(This is one of the most interesting people you will ever meet)(He has seen nearly every cool band in the world and even met Mick Jagger!)
For more information give them a call on 033 2344 335 or check out their website on www.abingdonestate.co.za
